SUMMARY:Tenth Annual City Nature Challenge Santa Barbara County April 25-28
DESCRIPTION:You can help create a biological baseline for organisms in our county by identifying as many native organisms as you can using the free iNaturalist app on your smart phone. There is a video class on using iNaturalist. You do not have to identify every organism you see as experts will be checking the ids of your observations. Be sure to take a full shot of your observation and a close-up of the flowers or organism your photographing. The app will put your observations in the City Nature Challenge (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Eu8glyrJ1TM) Santa Barbara County Project where you can see our results. We will be having a collection outing at the Rincon Bluffs from the east end of Carpinteria Avenue at 10am Sunday\, April 27. All ages and experiences welcome.

SUMMARY:Free Monthly Nature Walk at Elings Park
DESCRIPTION:Free Nature Walks of Elings Park return for the third year with a slate of new topics about the 230-acre park*s biodiversity. Once again led by Santa Barbara Botanic Garden experts\, the guided walks begin on Saturday\, March 8 with ※Botanical Shapes: Drawing in the Field§ and continue monthly through December 2025. \nThe walks are part of an on-going collaboration between the Garden and Elings Park\, and each walk includes a visit to their one-acre California-native plant restoration project in South Park. \nNature Walks are held on the second Saturday of the month\, start at 9 a.m.\, and meet at the Elings Park Softball Fields parking lot. They are free and no reservations are needed. For more information\, visit https://sbbotanicgarden.org/classes-events/nature-walks-at-elings-park. \n※These walks are the perfect introduction to the park*s natural side\,§ said Elings Park Executive Director Dean Noble. ※Though we host softball\, BMX\, concerts\, and more\, much of the park is undeveloped. Here*s a chance to learn about the plants\, birds\, and bugs that live here\, and see how we can work together to make it even more conducive for wildlife and for humans.§ \nNew topics include three walks with Garden bug specialists\, such as July*s ※Flower Visitors and Other Insect Residents\,§ August*s ※Fantastic Flies and Other Bugs You Didn*t Know You Love\,§ and October*s ※Spiders and Other Weird Critters.§ \n※History and Restoration at Elings Park§ in June is an overview of the park*s past and current restoration efforts. Two walks focus on iNaturalist\, an online social network for sharing nature observations: April is ※Exploring Plants and Bugs using iNaturalist\,§ and May is ※Introduction to the iNaturalist Plants§ for those interested in the Garden*s pollinators project. \nHands-on experiences include March*s ※Botanical Shapes§ and the ※Inside Scoop on Preparing Press Planted Museum Specimens§ in November. Bird walks in September and December take advantage of the Western fall migration along the Pacific Flyway. \n※We*re not just building habitat and conducting research at Elings Park and elsewhere\, we*re building a community of people who want to help nature\,§ says Denise Knapp\, Ph.D.\, director of conservation and research at the Garden. ※When we walk the Park together\, we explore interconnections of the natural world\, from the tiniest insects to bees\, birds\, and other wildlife. If we can inspire someone during a morning walk in a place they already love\, they can carry that experience into their own backyards and landscapes across Santa Barbara 每 and beyond.§ \nVolunteers are needed for ongoing garden maintenance and research. Please visit https://sbbotanicgarden.org/conservation/our-impact/restoring-habitats/elings-park-transformation. \n2025 Schedule of Nature Walks \nMarch 8 每 ※Botanical Shapes: Drawing in the Field§ led by the Garden*s Herbarium Collections Manager Annie Ayers and Rare Plant Technician Selena Vengco \nApril 12 每 ※Exploring the Plants and Bugs of Elings Park Using iNaturalist§ led by the Garden*s Invertebrate Biodiversity Technician Jos谷 Flores and Tucker Plant Systematist and Curator of the Clifton Smith Herbarium Matt Guilliams\, Ph.D. \nMay 10 每 ※Introduction to the iNaturalist Plants\, for Pollinators Project§ led by the Garden*s Director of Conservation and Research Denise Knapp\, Ph.D. and Terrestrial Invertebrate Conservation Ecologist Sarah Cusser\, Ph.D. \nJune 14 每 ※History and Restoration of Elings Park§ led by Elings Park Executive Director Dean Noble and the Garden*s Director of Conservation and Research Denise Knapp\, Ph.D. \nJuly 12 每 ※Flower Visitors and Other Insect Residents§ led by the Garden*s Terrestrial Invertebrate Conservation Ecologist Zach Phillips\, Ph.D. and Terrestrial Invertebrate Conservation Ecologist Sarah Cusser\, Ph.D. \nAugust 9 每 ※Fantastic Flies and Other Bugs You Didn*t Know You Love§ led by the Garden*s Terrestrial Invertebrate Conservation Ecologist Zach Phillips\, Ph.D.\, and Director of Conservation and Research Denise Knapp\, Ph.D. \nSeptember 13 每 ※Birds!§ led by the Garden*s Director of Education and Engagement Scot Pipkin and Terrestrial Invertebrate Conservation Ecologist Zach Phillips\, Ph.D. \nOctober 11 每 ※Spiders and Other Weird Critters§ led by the Garden*s Terrestrial Invertebrate Conservation Ecologist Zach Phillips\, Ph.D.\, and Invertebrate Biodiversity Technician Jos谷 Flores \nNovember 8 每 ※Inside Scoop on Preparing Pressed Plant Museum Specimens 每 A Show-and-Tell Experience§ led by the Garden*s Herbarium Collections Manager Annie Ayers and Terrestrial Invertebrate Conservation Ecologist Sarah Cusser\, Ph.D. \nDecember 13 每 ※Birds!§ led by the Garden*s Director of Education and Engagement Scot Pipkin & Terrestrial Invertebrate Conservation Ecologist Zach Phillips\, Ph.D.

END:VCALENDAR ※Next you*ll be saying the letter was in a registered envelope from California and was written in Cairo!§ laughed Dick. But that gave the seaplane an advantage. ※Well, Sky Patrol,§ said Jeff as the boys pocketed their reward checks, ※the sole of that-there right foot of mine itches. That means I*m to go into a new business and prosper〞with the help of my Sky Patrol and Ground Crew. How about it?§ Two or three other men had come up in the meanwhile with their cups, and they started, without so much as asking, to dip their cups in. "What sort of a man was he?" "Our batteries are improvin' wonderfully," commented the more practical Si, studying the field. "They seem to've socked every shell in just where it'd do the most good. No shootin' at the State o' Georgy generally and trustin' to luck to hit a rebel. Every shell seems to've landed just where it was needed, and then 'tended to its business and busted. You don't see no signs of any strikin' a quarter of a mile away, nor a whole one layin' around anywhere. That's good gunnin', and I'm glad our old six-hoss thrashin'-machine done the biggest share of it. Our brigade has the best battery in the whole army." That summer old Mrs. Backfield became completely bedridden. The gratefulness of sunshine to her old bones was counteracted by the clammy fogs that streamed up every night round the farm. It was an exceptionally wet and misty summer〞a great deal of Reuben's wheat rotted in the ground, and he scarcely took any notice when Tilly announced one morning that grandmother was too ill to come downstairs. Peter interposed: "Let me t?ake him on, f?ather. I'll show him a thing or two." "Harry's got a wife and children to keep〞he cudn't help us; and Johnnie's never m?ade more'n fifteen shilling a week since the war." HoME鹹躓域鼠弅慾桵
